Vera Blisters Detroit W (FCL)
After a 5-hit effort to lead Pittsburgh (FCL)'s 14-3 victory over the Detroit W (FCL) Tigers West, second baseman Edgar Vera told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Florida Complex League-level is really something special."

The 17-year-old player earned his accolades at Pirates Black Grounds with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Tigers West.

"His swing is getting there," said Pirates Black skipper Jose Romero, who spoke glowingly of Vera after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Edgar did that to perfection."

Edgar Vera grounded out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

Currently Vera is hitting .382 and has collected no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 5 times, while playing in 8 games.
