Paul Wellman was sending souvenirs to the sun gods all game long in the 17-9 Texas Rangers triumph at Rogers Centre.
The 32-year-old put on a show for fans, launching not one, not two, but three home runs into the stands and powering the Rangers past the Toronto Blue Jays.
"One homer's good, two's great, three's out of sight," Wellman told BNN reporters after the game. "I can't wait until next game. I really feel good at the plate."
The first baseman went 3-for-4, rung up 5 RBIs and scored 5 runs on his record-setting day.
Paul Wellman walked in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Dave Marrufo in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Dave Marrufo in the 6th, walked in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Cody Rye in the 8th and struck out in the 9th.
Wellman is batting .323 this season in 58 games with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has 74 hits in 229 at-bats.
