Washington Sends Eyer to Boston
Friday, July 31st , 2026
It likely won't turn either team into an instant contender or provide a huge franchise shakeup, but the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox finalized a trade today. Washington will send 27-year old RF Mike Eyer, 22-year old minor league RHP Roberto Ruiz, and $260,000 in cash to the Red Sox, while the Nationals will receive 23-year old LHP Bob Cox and 21-year old minor league RHP Daniel Blair.

"We think this is a deal that will help out both teams and we're glad to get it done," Nationals general manager Moises Mejia said.

The trade is expected to be officially completed later today with the players joining their new ballclubs by the end of the day.

Washington will retain a portion of Eyer's remaining contract.

On the season, Eyer is batting .316 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. He has played in 101 games.

For the year, Cox has made 20 relief appearances with 11 saves. He has also fashioned a 5-5 won-lost mark with a 4.35 ERA. In 82.2 innings he has fanned 47.
