Cleveland Deals Maldonado to New York for Hartsell
Friday, July 31st , 2026
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Cleveland and New York have made a swap with 24-year old minor league C Armando Maldonado being shipped to the Yankees and in return the Guardians would get 28-year old 2B Garret Hartsell.

Cleveland general manager David Williams said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction.

"This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines."

A source inside the Cleveland organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.

New York will retain a portion of Hartsell's remaining contract.

Hartsell is hitting .265 this year with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .335, 18 walks and scored 36 times.
